Mavis L. Wanczyk A (now former) medical center worker, won the $758-million Powerball jackpot fortune on Wednesday night. She picked up the winning ticket at a Pride Station and Store just outside of Springfield, Massachusetts.
"I had a pipe dream and my pipe dream has finally come true," said Wanczyk, who is from Chicopee, Massachusetts. The numbers she chose were a random combination of birthdays, lucky numbers and a wild card choice.
The mother of two said she was checking the numbers with a co-worker, who told her she won. "I work at Mercy Medical Center," Wanczyk said. "I have called to tell them I will not be coming back."
For now, the lucky lady said she plans to sit back, relax and figure out how to spend the money. The odds of picking all six numbers correctly were about one in 292.2 million. Wanczyk's win makes for the largest on a single ticket in North American history.
