While the total solar eclipse was a once in a lifetime event for everyone in the country who was able to witness it, for one South Carolina couple it was even more magical. State Representative Micah Caskey popped the question to his girlfriend Erin Harris during the eclipse’s totality, as the moon was directly in front of the sun.
Caskey says he started planning the proposal two months ago. "I saw a video about how cool the total solar eclipse was going to be,” he says, “And it just made sense to do it then.”
So while watching the celestial event on Lake Murray, he got down on one knee and asked Harris to be his wife. She said yes and the happy couple still had time to enjoy the total eclipse. "We're not really looking at the astronomical calendar for planning the wedding," Caskey says, "but who knows?"
