To celebrate their fifth anniversary, the owners of Cafe Buunni in New York City decided to close their coffee shop to give staff a chance to celebrate together at a beach day. But when regular customer Melody Morrow heard that plan, she offered to come work at the cafe for the day and others have volunteered to join her.
Cafe Buunni co-owner Sarina Prabasi agreed to let the customers take over for the day and sent out a Google document asking for them to sign up for one hour shifts. The response was so overwhelming, she had to close the form because she got so many people offering to help.
Prabasi says the experience has “reinforced that sense of community” with these customers they’ve had for five years. “If the response I had is any indication, we might do this every year,” she says.
