For the second year in a row, Harold Hager volunteered more hours than anyone at Steuben County's Habitat for Humanity in New York. He recently turned 100 and is volunteering 100 hours per month! "Harold has been with us for a few years years now and he's the volunteer who does the most number of hours here," says Marketing and Outreach Coordinator for Habitat for Humanity, Matthew Harmer.
Harold has no plans of stopping. He says his goal is to live to be 105. And by helping to make other people’s lives better, it actually makes his own life better. He's been a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity since his wife died in 2010. We were wed for 71 wonderful years and I couldn't imagine my life without her. But then I got out from myself and started helping others. Not only did life become worth living but it was fun again. I still miss her, but I love my life again"!
