70 years ago, Russ Gremel bought $1,000 of stock in Walgreens. The 98-year-old Chicago man held onto it for such a long time, it was worth more than $2 million!
So he wanted to do something good with all that money and he donated the stock to the Illinois Audubon Society. The conservation fund will use the donation to create the 400-acre Gremel Wildlife Sanctuary in Dixon, Illinois.
That pleases Gremel, who never had children of his own, but dedicated the last 67 years to working with the Boy Scouts. He wanted to make sure people of all ages could go out and enjoy nature, and thanks to his generosity, they can.
