Britt David Magnet Academy in Columbus, Georgia turns its readers into celebrities at their annual “Millionaire Bash.” The school celebrates the students who’ve read a million words during the school year.
For the bash, kids come dressed up like a celebrity, each class takes a 15-minute limo ride and their fans (parents) are waiting there for them, cheering them on with signs and banners. They walk a red carpet, get announced, and even sign autographs! And then the kids get a party, complete with pizza, chicken nuggets, treats, and a medal for reading a million words!
One of this year’s millionaires was six-year-old Breyden Suragh. His mom Denetta says he made a lot of progress as a reader during kindergarten this year because the party motivated him. “I think it’s a genius idea,” she says. “It was very fundamental to where his reading level is now.”
