TCM announces Robert Osborne replacement.

When Turner Classic Movies signed on in 1994 Robert Osborne was named as their nightly host. His most popular shows were the Sat night at 8 movies where he would have a celebrity co host. That show was called the Essentials. Sadly Robert died last month.

Alec Baldwin announced yesterday that he is taking over. Alec had been one of the co hosts in years past and developed a great friendship with Robert.

So far, he's got a roster of famous friends who'll stop by. "The Essentials" debuts May 6th, featuring David Letterman and screening "The Bad and the Beautiful." Tina Fey will make her guest appearance starting on June 24th to discuss her favorite classic movies, starting with "Rear Window."

After news of the new gig was reported, Baldwin noted, "I have some big shoes to fill hosting The Essentials, and I plan on doing Bob proud with this new season of 'The Essentials.'"
