College students volunteer over Spring Break

For a lot of college students, spring break means heading to a beach and soaking up the sun. But more than 100 students from 15 different universities spent their week off this year working for “Solar Spring Break” - installing solar panels on roofs.

The program is done through the nonprofit GRID Alternatives, which gives student volunteers work experience and provides free solar panels for low-income families. "Instead of going to party somewhere,” says the organization's executive director Paul Cleary, “they’re spending their spring break out here.”
