He’s only seven, but Ryan Hickman has already started his own recycling business and has saved $10,000 for college so far. The San Juan Capistrano, California boy got into recycling when he was only three and a half and really enjoyed sorting the cans and bottles at the center, and he’s been hooked ever since.
His business, Ryan's Recycling, has recycled over 200,000 cans and bottles. And this young entrepreneur isn’t just focused on his business, he’s concerned about the environment too. He donates proceeds from the sale of T-shirts on his website to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach. As Ryan says, “For the sea lions to get food and medicine.”
Of course, his parents hope he keeps saving for college, but he’s mainly interested in protecting the planet - which is pretty impressive for a seven-year-old. And to Ryan, it’s pretty simple. "If you already recycle, just keep on recycling,” he says. “If you don't recycle, start recycling.”
