Toby Keith launched a powerful career when he released his self-titled debut album in the early 90s.

The Oklahoma-born country star unleashed his 10-track album in 1993 with his smash-hit single, “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” which remains one of Keith’s most memorable anthems to date. Three decades later, Keith is known for dozens of other highlights throughout his career as a singer, songwriter, producer and businessman, in addition to his work with The Toby Keith Foundation to help children with cancer.

Keith died after a years-long battle with stomach cancer on February 5, 2024. He was 62. Keith is survived by his wife, Tricia Lucus, and three children: Shelley Covel Rowland, Krystal Keith and Stelen Keith Covel. A statement shared to the Country Music Hall of Fame inductee’s social media pages confirmed he “passed peacefully…surrounded by his family,” and fought his battle “with grace and courage.”

Since his loss, the country music community has honored Keith’s memory, including with covers of some of his beloved songs. Keith’s latest collection released before his death was 100% Songwriter, a 14-track collection of career-spanning songs Keith wrote himself. The album includes “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” “Country Comes To Town,” “You Shouldn’t Kiss Me Like This,” “Courtesy Of The Red, White And Blue (The Angry American),” and others.
