18-year-old Mykale Baker from Dacula, Georgia was ready for a big night. He was graduating from Mills Creek High School and then heading to a party with his friends. But shortly before the ceremony he got a call from the Burger King that he works at. Someone had called in sick and they were short staffed as it was. Could he come in tonight?
So the plans changed and he went directly from the ceremony to work. Mykale was still wearing his graduation attire while making a hamburger, customer Maria Mendoza, recorded a video of him at work. It turns out that Maria's daughter had graduated with Mykale and they stopped into Burger King about 10p for a late night snack. Maria posted her video and said "This young man deserves a scholarship".
When a bunch of others suggested a go fund me campaign she set it up and put $100 in to get it started. She was hoping for a few hundred dollars maybe even $1000. As of this morning there's over 82 thousand in the account!
When Maria came back with 11 Alive news to tell him Mykale was brought to tears. “Thank you so much, I was thinking of taking a gap year because I didn’t have money for school, but thank you to all of you now, I might actually go straight to technical college and get my degree right now".
