Volunteers Build Addition To Disabled Mans Home

A team of more than 25 volunteer builders in Southwest London organized by the UK charity “Band of Builders” recently constructed a free home addition for 58-year-old Paul Kitterman, who has been disabled since 2021. He had been sleeping in his dining room for over three years due to medical issues that left him unable to walk. The new space includes a ground-floor bedroom and bathroom, offering him improved independence and comfort.

The construction began in March and was completed with donated labor and materials, an effort inspired by the popular British show “DIY SOS.” Companies like DeWALT contributed time, tools, and support to the build. Kitterman’s wife, Sasha, had initially reached out to Band of Builders, and friends and family helped raise over $25-thousand to support the project, which is estimated to be worth nearly $200-thousand.

Kitterman’s condition resulted from a medical emergency in 2021, and since returning home from the hospital, he’s been living on the ground floor of his home in a hospital bed. He expressed deep gratitude to everyone involved in the project. “The first night was the best sleep and the best shower ever,” he shares, adding, "I still can’t believe that all these people are turning up just to help me. This will make a massive difference to my life.”
