Joe & Marian Roeser live in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Last week Joe was spreading mulch in the back yard while Marian worked in their garden. WTOC-TV reports that what happened next wasn't to be believed.
An 8.5 foot long gator snuck out of the pond and came across their yard while both had their backs tuned and attacked Joe.
Marian heard his scream and was in total shock to see this massive beast trying to drag her husband back to the water to kill him.
The only weapon she had was a stake she was putting in the ground to grow her tomatoes on. She ran over to gator and tried stabbing him in his eye. That did it! He released Joe and squirmed back to the pond. Marian was slightly injured twisting her ankle but was released the same day from the hospital. Joe was airlifted and Doctors believe they will be able to save his leg.
DNR searched the pond for a gator with a bleeding eye and he was put down. They also say if you're attacked the eyes are the best place to attack as it's one of the most vulnerable spots on a gator.
