Ahead of her 70th birthday this year, Fawn Whalley posted a TikTok video about what she wishes she’d known when she was 30. And she’s capturing the attention of thousands of viewers with her “Golden Years Guidance.”
The biggest thing she’s learned with age? That it’s not worth it to worry about what other people think of you. “I used to stress over what people thought, what I wore, what I said, my accent, every little mistake,” she shares in the clip. “But you know what? They’re too busy thinking about themselves to worry about you.” She continues, “Think about it. Do you spend hours analyzing someone else’s awkward moment? No. Neither do they.”
The soon-to-be 70-year-old encourages viewers to stop wasting energy on baseless worries and to instead speak up, be authentic and take risks. “Live your life for you, not them,” she says. “Doesn’t matter who they are.” Her advice has been winning hearts online, with many commenters thanking her for the reminder.
- "This is very true and it's the same thing I realized in my 30s," one writes. "I spent a lot of my 20s miserable. Thirty-four now and I just don't care anymore, in the best way."
- “Love to hear what the older generation has to say on here. Some great wisdom 💖,” another comments. “Thank you for sharing.”
- "’Live life for you.’ Perfect. Couldn't have said it better myself,” writes a third. “Thanks for your wisdom.”
