New Non Surgical Procedure Helps Man End 30 Years Of Hand Tremors

After living with a hand tremor for over three decades, Palm Beach 72-year-old Orlando Avendaño finally found relief thanks to a high-tech ultrasound treatment that took just a few hours and didn’t require surgery. NBC 6 Miami reports that he procedure was performed at Delray Medical Center in Florida and was fully covered by Medicare. Now Avendaño can do things he hadn’t been able to in years, like eating with one hand or writing his name.

Doctors used a special new headset called Neuravive, which sends focused sound waves into the brain. With help from an MRI machine, Dr. Lloyd Zucker was able to pinpoint the exact spot causing the tremor and use the ultrasound to “turn it off.” When the treatment was over, Avendaño raised his hand and it was completely steady. He said "Oh my God, it's unbelievable," Then he went to the waiting room and for this first time in this century was able to hold his wife's hand without her arm shaking.

Dr. Zucker says "It’s probably the most wonderful thing. When you see the patients and the families and what it does for them," he said. "He'll go home, and he's going to sit there tonight at dinner, and all those things he couldn’t do, he's gonna be doing. How do you put an adjective on that one? You can't.”
