The U11 Lakeshore Girls Lightning White team is a finalist in the Good Deeds Cup, a contest by Chevrolet Canada that encourages minor league hockey teams to give back to their communities. As of Tuesday morning, the team has logged more than 800 good deeds to position themselves as frontrunners in the competition.
If they win, they plan to donate the prize money to the Cancer Research Collaboration Fund and the Play for a Cure tournament, both supporting local cancer research initiatives. With the March 6th deadline approaching, the team is making a final push to beat last year’s champions, who racked up 1,350 good deeds.
Team member Lauren Meadows, 10, tells The Windsor Star that her best friend’s battle with cancer and the impact of the disease on many families as the source of her motivation. She describes their strategy as continuously doing more good deeds, explaining that each act of kindness inspires another. The team is laser focused on their goal of winning the prize and making a meaningful contribution to cancer research.
