Kari Felkamp was shopping for a dress to wear to her husbands work gala. She made a video of herself in the Chicago area Macy's dressing room trying on 7 different dresses and giving her commentary on each. Most were rejected because of fit or the slit was too high. The only one she loved was dress #2 but opted to not get it due to it costing $300.
After her video about the decision went viral, the dress’s designer, Betsy & Adam, sent her the green dress along with two others for free.
By the time that Kari received the dress, she’d already received a significant amount of money from TikTok views and donations, so she decided to pay the kindness forward by helping others who needed dresses for special occasions. She launched a raffle to support women and girls in need, with one recipient, who entered to help buy her daughter a prom dress, splitting her winnings with two other people, showing how the kindness kept spreading.
Kari is now embracing her new title as the "Green Dress Girl" and continues to inspire others to prioritize self-care. Macy’s has also stepped in to give her a shopping spree with a personal stylist, helping her explore new styles after her recent weight loss and skin removal surgeries. She plans to wear the green dress at the end of March and hopes to keep hosting raffles to support others in need.
