17% Of American's Want To Move To A Different Country

A poll from Talker Research finds 17% of Americans say they’d like to move to another country in the next five years.

But some are already working on becoming expats, including 2% who already have plans in place and have started the process of moving outside the U.S. within five years. Another 5% say they’ll soon be making plans to live in another country in that time frame. And for 44% of respondents, this isn’t a new desire, they say they’ve always wanted to experience living in a different country.

So, where does everybody want to move to? According to the poll of 2-thousand U.S. adults, Canada is the country with the most appeal (19%).

  • Their high-quality healthcare is the biggest draw (41%), followed by the exploring country’s landscape (28%) and Canada’s practical approach to work/life balance (21%).
  • Italy comes in second, thanks to its cuisine (68%), culture (66%) and scenery (40%).
  • As for why they’re considering a new country, 69% say it’s because they’re worried about the direction the U.S. is moving in and 65% feel it’s become toxic.
  • Money is a big factor, too, as 54% say living in the U.S. isn’t affordable anymore and 39% admit improving their finances and quality of life would be easier in another country.
  • More than half (57%) aren’t happy with the work/life balance in America and feel the healthcare (65%) and education (66%) systems are broken.
