In Aurora CO, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office says James McDonald, 41, stole a red Ford F-150 truck from a Centennial car dealership on March 11, 2023. 2 days later he stole an RV. Police almost caught James an unnamed woman when they saw her driving the stolen truck and right behind her was James driving the stolen RV. Due to safety concerns for the community the chase was called off. They found the RV later that day filled with stolen weapons. A day later, a black Ford F-150 truck was stolen from a car dealer in Franktown CO.
KDVR-TV reports police spotted McDonald again in the black F-150 and gave chase again. He drove like a madman hoping they would call of the chase again but this time knowing he had stolen weapons as well they decided to do whatever it takes to catch him. As he hit vehicles on the highway and ran over curbs the truck lost a tire and fire was coming from the rims, before crashing at an intersection.
Johan Eslava-Osorio and his wife were walking into a grocery store when they saw the crash and McDonald take off running.
Johan ran after the suspect, chasing him around the block. He says “This person was running totally free and dangerous. The police needed help and I didn't want this guy to do any more harm".
As the chase continued into a parking lot a driver used their vehicle to block the suspect, giving Johan enough time to tackle him, holding him until authorities arrived.
Johan says "of course I was scared. This guy is obviously a violent man and half the department is trying to catch him. But it is important to protect your community and if we all behaved and helped each other, this would be a much safer world for everyone, and I think bad guys would be less likely to do their evil stuff if they knew we were all willing to fight them."
