Elderly Scam Victim Receives Amazing Support From Community

Fox 5 Vegas has the story of 89-year-old Vietnam War veteran Manny Guerrero. He was scammed out of $180-thousand in a Publishers Clearing House scheme. Manny lost his savings after being told he’d won millions but needed to pay taxes upfront. He took out a loan to pay the taxes but when it became obvious he had been scammed he was totally wiped out financially!

When Fox 5 originally ran the story they showed that his home was now falling into disrepair.

A few Las Vegas businesses stepped in to help him. Silver Star Plumbing owner Vinny Raucci installed a new water heater donated by Plumbing Parts Company, while KD Williams Construction reinforced the base that had been damaged by the leak. The companies provided their services free of charge, refusing payment from Guerrero, who expressed deep gratitude, saying, “They’re good people. They’re really good people.”

The vet shares that he recently received another scam call, but hung up immediately. FOX5 talked to the real Publishers Clearing House and officials say they will not call someone in advance if they’ve won a big prize. Instead, the “Prize Patrol” will show up at their door. Officials also say you never have to pay money up front, including taxes, in any legitimate sweepstakes.
