Dad Donates Kidney In Honor Of His Late Daughter

NBC News reports that 55 year old Andy Emmott felt compelled to donate his kidney to a girl after losing his eight-year-old daughter, Sarah, to a rare kidney disease. A kind stranger had stepped up and donated their kidney to save Sarah after no family members were a match.

When Andy heard about Amber, an 11-year-old girl in the same situation as Sarah had been he offered to see if he was a match. He was thrilled to find out he was a perfect match!

Both he and Amber are now recovering well, and Andy has returned to light office duties at his job with Northern Powergrid. His manager, Amanda White, is amazed by Andy! “I am scared stiff to donate blood, so to donate a kidney is amazing. I didn’t know Andy when he lost Sarah, but having visited him at home while he has been recovering, her presence is everywhere, photo after photo. I think it would be rather easy to slip into a permanent depression after losing your only child, but Andy has used it as fuel to help others."

In Sarah’s memory, Andy continues to raise funds for Theodora Children’s Charity, an organization that brings joy and laughter to children facing medical challenges. He shared his gratitude for the impact the charity had on Sarah’s life and encourages others to contribute to its mission of bringing comfort to children in need.
