Upstate Dog Was Presumed Dead But Her Owner Kept Hope Alive

A husky mix named Oakley was stolen from her owner in June and then dumped in the wilderness in Greenville County, South Carolina. A rescue organization called Anakin’s Trails Stray and Pet Recovery has been attempting to capture her and bring her home since August. When Helene hit they lost sight of her. Many presumed she had died in the storm. However her owner never gave up hope.

Then a few weeks ago Oakley was spotted on a wildlife camera. Oakley has lost all trust in humans since her abduction and would run at the smell of a human, so capturing her seemed almost impossible. Rescuers used a custom trap with food bait designed to catch skittish and fearful dogs. After several weeks she was captured. Then the dramatic moment of what would she do when she saw her owner?

She was hesitant to approach her owner, but after a few sniffs, she recognized them and responded with tail wags and lots of kisses. A video of the touching reunion was shared on social media and viewed over 100-thousand times.
