Kimberly Perry tells a “cautionary tale” through her powerful lyrics of the upbeat anthem she debuted on Friday (September 22). Perry recalls previously moving West to pursue pop music and ultimately returning to country music in Nashville, Tennessee. She’s been cherishing “new life” as a mother after welcoming Baby No. 1 with husband Johnny Costello last month.
“Fool’s Gold” released along with Perry’s announcement that Superbloom, an extension of her 5-track EP that released in June, would be out next month. Bloom included the singer-songwriter’s smash-hit ballad “If I Die Young Pt. 2,” telling a new story after the original single — which she released in The Band Perry with brothers Neil and Reid Perry — and other fan-favorite tracks.
“Fool’s Gold is about my experience out West, pursuing pop music, and chasing a so-called golden carrot,” Perry said in a press release issued Friday. “While I needed that season and that adventure to discover more about who I am, all of it ultimately led me back home to Tennessee, to Johnny, and to Country music. Thank God for the dead ends, it’s where we get to spin around and start making our way to our truest selves.”
“Fool’s Gold” is one of four tracks that will join the original five songs included on the Bloom project, Perry shared. Superbloom is set to release on October 27.
