Not many people remember the movie "Mommie Dearest", however most are familiar with the line "no wire hangers"! If you've never seen the famous scene of Faye Dunaway in the role of Joan Crawford screaming at her daughter for using a wire hanger on her dress, it's below. This is how I imagine Jennifer Lopez responding to her Chef when he served rice with one of her meals.
Her chef Kelvin Fernandez tells “Us Weekly” she was on a strict diet in the weeks leading up to her Super Bowl performance. “It was one of those things where she was eating almost the same thing every single day. There were simple carbs and complex carbs and different types of carbs that we had to implicate into the breakfast, lunch and dinner structure. For the most part it was egg white scramble with vegetables three different ways and every single day.”
Kelvin says one day he decided to reward all her hard work with a family-style meal, but it apparently backfired on him. He notes, “The next day she’s like, ‘Kelvin, you served me rice.’ And I’m like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, there was chicken, there was salad. You grabbed the rice!’”
After that family style meals were out. He explains, “From that moment I said, ‘Alright, Jennifer. I’m going to serve you every single plate individually. Do not look at anyone else’s plate. Do not look at what anyone else has.’” She has decided to stick with that diet pretty much every since. “She’s such a hard worker. When she puts her mind to something, it’s incredible how much can be accomplished”. Kelvin notes "she never liked desserts but she is definitely tempted by rice and other carbs, so if I want to keep my job I have to make sure they are no where near her plate".
