A Minnesota man has a lot to celebrate this week.Samuel Nilva not only turned 101 years old, but also beat the coronavirus. He’s recovered from the illness and got the best present ever: the hospital let him go home after a week of treatment.
The World War II veteran has always been a survivor, starting with being born during the middle of a pandemic. Nilva was born in 1919 at the height of the Spanish Flu. Last year, he had brain surgery at 100 to relieve swelling and his daughter Barbara says the idea of getting coronavirus hardly scared him.
“He has been unafraid of things all his life. He says fear kills more people than anything else. He always told me when I was growing up and about to go through some difficult ‘We have all faced scary things before and beat it. Be brave and you'll win too’"
