Dog Finds Forever Home After 5 Years In Shelter

Merrick the dog has spent most of his life living at the Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, but he’s finally found his forever home. The six-year-old dog became the shelter’s longest resident ever after being there five years.

They tried everything to get him adopted, including a billboard and a social media campaign, and it finally worked. The shelter was searching for Merrick’s ideal living situation - a home with no kids and an owner with lots of energy to keep up with the big dog. Now they say Merrick has found his “perfect match” with his new mom and dad.

“It was love at first sight,” says Jordan Nussbaum, who adopted the dog. “It just seems like I was destined to be with him.”

Jordan says Merrick is enjoying the freedoms of his new life by running around the large yard and drinking from the toilet.

Nussbaum reports that Merrick has also taken a liking to a female dog that lives next door.

He has also become a social media star in his own right, the Facebook page Merrick the Rescue Pup
