Fox 46 Charlotte reports that Andre Riley, who had been hired at American Airlines in 2012, was terminated last year following a breathalyzer test administered after a Las Vegas-to-Charlotte flight. He claims that he didn't have anything to drink that day. However, Riley had failed a breathalyzer test in 2013 that was caused because of his drinking.
So could he have failed a breathalyzer test by being on a keto diet? According to some doctors, when the keto diet was gaining popularity, certain breathalyzer equipment may give false positives when used by people in ketosis. Dr Ryan Lowery says" With acetone and it will get released as isopropyl alcohol and some devices aren't able to differentiate between isopropyl and ethanol”.
He's looking to be reinstated to his job.
