Bus driver mows lawn so kids can stand at bus stop

In Waco Texas school bus driver Jerry Martin noticed his elementary school kids were waiting in waist-high weeds every day at one stop, so he did something about it. The driver, who’s worked for the Copperas Cove Independent School District for 18 years, brought his own lawnmower to the vacant yard and cut the overgrown grass himself.

“I mowed that lawn because my kids have to stand there, and tall grass attracts chiggers,” Martin explains, “so I didn’t want my kids having to stand in it and get chigger bites.”

He says it’s not the first time he’s mowed the area, but this time, he let his bosses know so they could snap a photo. Martin’s idea was to “show something positive that bus drivers are doing instead of always the negativity that you see in the media.” And we say, “Well done sir!”
