Lifelong baseball fan gets to see first game in person for 99th birthday

Catherine Kyle has been a Pittsburgh Pirates fan all her life and loves watching their baseball games on TV, but despite living in nearby Carnegie, Pennsylvania, she had never been to PNC Park to see them play. Her 99th birthday, her family wanted to do something special. Her day started like a typical party at her house but then a party bus pulled up.

A total of 16 of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren took Catherine to see the Pirates play their hated rivals the Cincinnati Reds. The Pirates won 14-0! Catherine said another amazing part of her night was getting to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” in the seventh inning with all the other fans.

“I feel special,” the birthday gal says. “It was a really good game and it was really fun.”
