A tween in Texas has a mission: to help feed the hungry in his community.Matthew Reel, 12, got his start helping others by making “blessing bags” for those in need on his eighth birthday. That inspired him to ask for resources to help feed more people in the community instead of a birthday party and that turned into his nonprofit,Matthew's Birthday Wish.
Now the kid from Conroe provides meals for 25 families every weekend of his school year. He brings the food to his school and it’s sent home with the children whose families need it. Now his hard work is being recognized in his community. Houston mayor Sylvester Turner just proclaimed July 10th “Matthew Reel Day.”
