MacKenzie Bezos donates 18 billion & attempts to shame her ex to follow

Just a few months after finalizing her divorce from Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Bezos is pledging to give away at least half of her fortune. She’s signed the Giving Pledge.

For those unfamiliar, the 'Pledge' was started by Bill Gates,Warren Buffett and seeks to encourage the very very rich to to give away more than half their money to charity or philanthropic causes either during their lifetime or in their wills.

MacKenzie became one of the richest people in the world since divorcing the Amazon founder earlier this year. Her personal fortune is now worth an estimated $36.6-billion. In a letter announcing her pledge to give, Bezos clearly has some plans. “My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful,” she writes. “It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”

Her " I won't wait" line is a thinly veiled shot at Jeff who hasn't signed the pledge. After his divorce where he had to pay his ex over 36 billion, Jeff's now worth an estimated 155 billion, which is almost double what #2 richest person in the world, Bill Gates is worth. Jeff may not have pledged 77 billion to charity yet but he has given away 2 billion over his lifetime! Don't worry about Jeff though. He is currently averaging 260 million dollars PER DAY! Which means he'll recoup that 2 billion in in 2 weeks! That's right he is making a billion a week in 2019! When Jeff tweeted his congratulations yesterday to MacKenzie the most popular response was "sign the Pledge".

So far 204 billionaires have signed the Pledge (you can see their names here) Perhaps this new pressure could get the biggest pledge of them all.
