A 91-year-old World War II veteran in Michigan has just received an honor he earned 73 years ago.William Naill served in the Navy with an occupational force unit in Guam protecting citizens, but he never got something he deserved: the U.S. Navy Occupation Service Medal. Now, decades later, he’s been honored with the award.
Chaplain Wesley Spyke with the West Michigan Veterans Affairs office says Naill worked in occupied Guam to keep people safe and he helped get the paperwork in for the medal. In an award ceremony, the veteran was honored with his wife of 71-years by his side, along with family and friends there to celebrate his recognition.
