Worlds smallest baby has been released from the hospital and is home!

A baby boy who was born in Tokyo weighing less than 10 ounces has finally gone home from the hospital. The infant reportedly stopped growing in the womb and was delivered at 24 weeks. When he was born, he was so tiny, he only weighed about as much as an onion and fit into an adult’s cupped hands.

According to Keio University Hospital, the unnamed baby boy is believed to be the smallest newborn boy to be discharged from a hospital in good health. What an impressive record to hold! The preemie spent five months getting treatment and now weighs in at just over seven pounds and was finally able to go home last week.

“I can only say I’m happy that he has grown this big,” the baby’s mother says, “because honestly, I wasn’t sure he could survive.”
