That saying “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again,” definitely paid off for a Winston-Salem North Carolina man recently. Benjamin Sinclair has been playing his “special numbers” in the lottery for the last 27 years and he finally won with them.
Sinclair admits he knew it was a long shot, but he kept playing those same numbers. 08-12-13-19-27 and he was shocked to see five of his numbers come up as a match in the October 27th drawing, but he finally hit it big, winning a $1-million prize.
"I had to look at the numbers several times to make sure," Sinclair says. "It feels great to win." Sinclair took home a $705,011 lump sum.
I did a little math and even if played both Powerball and Mega Millions every drawing (which both happen twice a week) he would have spent $416 per year. That would have come to $11,232 for 27 years of plays.
I couldn't find video of Benjamin winning so here's one discussing the wisdom of playing the same numbers every week.
