SC Teen Becomes Hero

14 year old Murrells Inlet resident James Brown became a hero over the weekend after saving his 96 year old Great-Great-Great Aunt from a house fire. Pauline Cavelry woke up 2 am Saturday morning to smoke in her bedroom. When she attempted to leave the room she realized her downstairs was on fire and she began screaming for help.

James lives next door and heard the screams. He ran over there and originally tried to go through the front door but it was fully engulfed. He ran to the back and saw Pauline stuck midway down the stairs.

“She told me I probably wasn’t going to be able to do anything and that I wouldn’t be able to get her over. I told her I’m the only one that can do anything right now, so that’s all that matters (and) we have to go. I was thinking in my mind if she’s going, then I’m going too.” When asked if he was scared to go in James said "I didn’t really think about it to be honest, it’s just I saw her knew where she need to be and it’s not in there,"

His Aunt was treated and released from the hospital and is now satying with her family. James says he hopes to one day becaome a Navy Seal
