Man uses own money to open mental health clinics for vets

A new mental health clinic for veterans will officially open in Colorado on Monday, thanks to funding from one of the wealthiest men in the U.S. The Cohen Veterans Network is Steven A. Cohen’s charitable project, he’s a former hedge fund titan with an estimated net worth of $11-billion.

Back in 2016, Cohen pledged $275-million to open the clinics around the country and so far he’s opened 12 in military towns and major cities, including the newest one in Denver. The mental health clinics will provide services to all post 9/11 veterans, and their family members and their boyfriends, girlfriends, or others the vets identify as caregivers. Services will even be free for those without insurance.

"Every day, many veterans and their families are living with the mental and physical scars from serving their country during military service,” the CVN website explains. “The Cohen Veterans Network, a not-for-profit philanthropic organization, was created to serve them by providing high-quality, accessible, and integrated mental health care,"
