Every once in a while, answering a call you think is a scammer can be a good thing, it turns out. Valerie Williams says she’d been using the Michigan Lottery app to scan non-winning tickets, but didn’t realize that in doing so, she was entering herself in a second-chance drawings. One day, a call came in that she was hesitant to answer, but she did anyway…and that’s how she learned she was a contestant in the $1 million Electric Giveaway. As a contestant, she was able to spin the big prize wheel at Comerica Park during a Detroit Tigers game, and found herself the big million-dollar winner.
