It is now illegal to die in the town of Lanjaron Spain. So I guess all good law abiding citizens will live till further notice. According to the NY Post the law was actually passed 25 years ago at the turn of this century. The town has one cemetery which was full. The solution? The Mayor and town council passed a law that outlawed dying.
The then mayor made a declaration that urged citizens of Lanjarón “to take utmost care of their health so they do not die until town hall takes the necessary steps to acquire land suitable for our deceased to rest in glory. It is hereby forbidden to die in Lanjaron.”
In 25 years town hall has not taken those steps. Also unfortunately the 4000 or so residents are not all law abiding and people continue to die despite the law. Not sure what the punishment is for breaking this law.
