Deena Babb Smith lives on Tybee Island which is basically the Carolina/GA border . Her grandson Reb from Colorado was visiting over what would be his 13th birthday. Reb is autistic and his favorite thing in the world is to open mail. If it's for him even better, but he likes the act of opening letters so he may be the only person in the world who actually enjoys junk mail. But if it's a note or card for him he is in heaven. Deena was concerned that most of the folks who would send him a card for his birthday wouldn't know he was at her home and he would be disappointed in the volume of his birthday greetings, so she made a social media post for her friends asking them to write a note or send a card to Reb at her home.
Well hundreds of people from SC/GA sent cards and notes to Reb. Deena tells People she didn't personally know most of the folks who sent her Grandson cards. "There were a lot of cards from people I did not know and they would write 'from your neighbor' and 'from your friend. They must have learned about it from one of our mutual friends on social media but treated Reb and me like longtime friends! This was his favorite birthday ever and I'm so thankful to everyone who did this for him."
