Tinder is testing out a new feature that lets users screen for potential matches based on height. According to a rep for the dating app, it’s all part of a push to “help people connect more intentionally”.
Tinder reports that the new feature is available to users who pay for premium memberships. They’ll now see the option to specify the minimum and maximum heights of their matches in the Discovery section of the app, along with options like prioritized likes, a specific interest filter and the ability to message before you match. But reps for the app explain that the height screener is a preference, not a hard filter, so it won’t block or exclude profiles that don’t meet the requirement.
But that hasn’t kept critics from slamming the option on social media.
- “Justice for all us short kings!” demands one, while another comments, “It’s over for short men. What are they going to do now?”
- “It’s so hypocritical that men are demonized for having preferences but it’s ok for women, often about things men can’t change,” a woman posts on X. “Imagine if Tinder added a weight filter.”
- But others are sharing their support, including one woman who shares, “Big fan of the Tinder height filter for no reason other than it pisses grown men off.”
- And another teases, “Omg no way.. Tinder added a height filter? Wow.. We should talk about this for the next 30 days and 30 nights despite the fact that literally every other dating app already did it.”
- It turns out, that’s true, as other dating apps, including Hinge, already have a height filter in place for premium users.
