In 2020 Hurricane Laura blew through Lake Charles, Louisiana, ,and amongst all the tragedy Debbie LaFleur lost her Yorkshire Terrier, Kingston.
Last week, he unexpectedly showed up 300 miles away in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, on the back porch of the Kappa Sigma fraternity house at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Fraternity president, Neal Rachal tells WDAM-TV they discovered Kingston, initially naming him “Benji hanging around the frat house. The next day, they had his microchip scanned and learned his real name was Kingston and that he’d been missing for five years.
LaFleur received an email and a phone call confirming Kingston had been found. “My heart just started pounding,” she recalls, describing the emotional moment.
She and her son drove four hours to pick up Kingston. As soon as he saw her, Kingston excitedly sprinted toward her. The fraternity members made Kingston an honorary member, with Rachal saying, “He’s like a member of the chapter right now.” LaFleur expressed deep gratitude to the “wonderful guys” at the frat house, adding, “So happy to have my baby back.”
