Sportico has broken down all of the public university's athletic department's spending and revenue. They detailed 3 sports. Basketball both men and women along with football.

There's some interesting facts in there. For example the University Of South Carolina athletic department is almost completely financed by football. The university spent almost 43 million on football but brought in almost 69 million for a profit of 26 million. The loss leader at USC was women's basketball which brought in a little over 5 million between tickets, TV rights and merch but the University spent 10.7 million on the program for a loss of 5.7 million. Men's basketball made a small profit after an investment of nearly 8 million they brought in over 11.5 million for a 4.5 million profit.

Clemson spent much more on their football program at 66.7 million and in return brought in 76.8 million. Their profit is much smaller at 10.1 million. Their budget for women's basketball was half of South Carolina's at 5.6 million but they still lost 4 million with revenues only reaching 1.6 million. Their men's basketball team lost money as well. Clemson spent 10 million on the team but only returned 9.9 million.

In the big picture, Clemson's football budget put it at #8 nationally. South Carolina was #29.

For women's basketball South Carolina spent the most at 10.7 million, but not by much as Connecticut, LSU and Texas all spent north of 10 million dollars.

For men's basketball Clemson was ranked 40th at 10 mil and South Carolina ranked 55th at 7.9 mil. Top spender on men's basketball by a lot was Kentucky at 23.6 million.
