Amy Schmitt and her adult special needs son Jacob in Woodhaven, Michigan, love dressing up and handing out candy on Halloween. Their house has become sort of legendary for kids in the neighborhood to get great compliments on their costumes.
But this year Jacob was in the hospital. Amy left a note telling the Trick or Treaters that she was visiting him and they were so sorry to miss them in their costumes.
Then she started receiving notifications from her doorbell camera. The kids wanted her to see their costumes and they started leaving candy for Jacob.
Amy says "tons and tons of kids are dumping baskets of candy out! Amy described it as "overwhelming" .
One dad tells WXYZ-TV that his 6 year old Mia wanted to go back out for a second round of trick-or-treating. "All of the candy she collected the second time, she goes, 'I don't want this candy, I want to leave it here."
Amy said "It's just amazing ... what these parents have raised these kids to be. We saw not only little kids like Mia who went out with a parent but some older kids who were just in a group. We see a group of young people like that and often times we think they are going to get in trouble. Yet these kids just wanted to do good. To do that without your parents there is remarkable."
