He Saved His Rivals Life

Living in South Carolina we all know about the bad blood between Clemson and USC. Before the Palmetto Bowl each year Clemson holds a mock funeral for Cocky, while in Columbia they construct a 2 story tiger and set it on fire. Sports rivalry's are a powerful thing at every level of sport. Down in the heart of Texas on the fringe of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex there's 2 high schools who have been rivals for decades. Cleburne High School and Highland Park High School have been rivals for years!

Mason Williams is the Offensive line coach at Cleburne. Mason was born in 1995 with only one kidney. That one kidney started to fail, and the football coach suddenly found himself on dialysis and going to the bottom of a very long list of folks waiting for a kidney. Mike Trevino, the football coach at rival Highland reached out to send him best wishes. After speaking with Mason, Mike wanted to see if he could help. Mike secretly got tested to see if he could donate his kidney and found out he was a match.

Last Christmas Mike delivered the good news to Mason and almost immediately they went to the hospital and did the transplant.

Today Mason is healthy as a horse. He loves spending time with his wife and their 2 year old daughter. Mike and Mason were recently honored before their game. Mason says there is no way to properly thank Mike for this second shot at life. However Mike says he's already doing it by coaching these young men on how to become men. Our community is better because Mason is here and how he works with these high school fellas. As long as they don't beat us.
