Prayer Walk Pays Off

38 year old Shiller Joseph of Utah has lupus, which has damaged his kidneys and he was on dialysis three times a week. Shiller was going to die an early death if he couldn't get a kidney transplant. On his good days he and his wife would go on walks around a 2.2 mile trail in Provo while praying for someone to donate a kidney.

During this same period of time Krissy Miller saw a Facebook post about someone asking for a kidney for her husband. Krissy started thinking about her husband and what she would do to save him. Krissy decided to begin the process to see if she could be a donor. Her results came back that she couldn't. She needed to lower her blood sugar and lose some weight. In order to meet that goal she began going for walks on a 2.2 mile trail around Provo.

This was going on for a year. One morning she was praying in her car about her daughter leaving on a mission trip and felt compelled to pray about becoming a kidney donor. She said if it's your will Father I'm willing and just need guidance. She said Amen opened her eyes and saw Shiller and his wife on the trail. She went out and began her walk and later she bumped into the Josephs on their way back. She said hello. They stopped to speak with her. They mentioned they were new to Utah. "What brought you here" she asked. ""I'm on the wait list for a kidney and felt like God wanted us here" he said. She was stunned.

"I don't believe it was a coincidence that we met that day. I believe God made our meeting possible and it's kind of a shocker to say, 'Oh yeah, I'm gonna donate a kidney.' But when you feel like you're part of a bigger plan it's really easy to want to donate."

Tests revealed they were over a 90% match which is similar to siblings.
