LONGEVITY EXPERT’S SECRETS FOR SLEEP

Peter Diamandis, founder of XPrize, bestselling author, entrepreneur, longevity investor and multimillionaire, knows sleep is essential for overall well-being.

He’s revealing the five things that help him get a great night of sleep, starting with the Oura ring. It’s a wearable tracker that looks like a wedding band and calculates movement, temperature, heart rate and how well the wearer sleeps. While the $300 Oura ring doesn’t help him sleep better, Diamandis says it helps him “remain true” to his commitment to get at least seven hours a night and his goal is a sleep score of over 90%.

Create the perfect sleep environment - That starts with keeping your room nice and cool. According to The Sleep Foundation, the optimum temperature for sleep is between 65 and 68-degrees, but this expert prefers his room a little colder, setting his thermostat to 63 every night. He also uses a cooling mattress cover from Eight Sleep, but it’ll set you back more than $25-hundred, so it’s an investment.

Get an eye mask - This sleep essential blocks the light out and is much more affordable, Diamandis says his favorite accessory for getting better sleep is this $35 Manta eye mask.

Stick to a schedule - It may seem boring, but having a strict bedtime works. Going to bed early at close to the same time every night helps improve your sleep hygiene and that schedule leads to optimal sleep. Diamandis tries to be asleep by 9:30 every night and gets up between 5:30 and 6:00 a.m., but he swears it helps him get a great night’s sleep.

Try a mouthguard to stop snoring - Some people use a CPAP machine for sleep apnea and snoring, but he prefers a special mouthguard. “I use what’s called a mandibular advancement device, which is an upper and lower mouthpiece,” Diamandis explains. “It slightly justs your jaw forward, opens your airway.” The device also keeps him from grinding his teeth and gives him “a sense of comfort.”
