The U.K. Classifies This As A New Hobby. Americans Love It Too

A new survey of 4-thousand people in the U.K. finds: About a quarter (24%) of them consider scrolling through social media a genuine hobby.

  • Four in 10 admit that they spend the majority of their spare time watching TV and scrolling and 10% say they don’t have any other hobbies.
  • A third of respondents realize that the amount of time they spend on social media is preventing them from pursuing their other interests.
  • But 32% feel screen scrolling helps them relax and cope with the stresses of life, while 20% say it’s a cheap way to spend their free time.
  • Sadly, 16% of those polled confess they don’t do any outdoor activities at all.
  • But 59% admit they do want to try something new and 38% want to break their scrolling habit and they’re actively trying to spend less time on social media.
  • Nearly a quarter (23%) are even considering getting rid of Instagram, TikTok and all of their social media to help encourage them to do other things.
