Criminals have already ruined Wi Fi.
Now they have a new way to get your info.
It's called juice jacking. The FBI is warning that criminals have a new scheme. They're able to load malware into the charging station at airports, hotels, restaurants etc. Then you plug your phone or tablet in and they suddenly download the malware which may lock your device, or send private information such as passwords, addresses, banking information or even a full backup of your phone to criminals.
Here's their tips to avoid being a victim.
- Bring a portable charger or external battery.
- Carry a charging-only cable, which prevents data from sending or receiving while charging, from a trusted supplier.
- Never plug your device into cables already there, as authorities warn in some cases criminals left those cables to trick you.
