WalletHub’s annual list of the Most Sinful States in America has just come out. They rank each state on 47 key indicators of “immoral or illicit behavior” that fall into seven categories: Anger & Hatred, Jealousy, Excesses & Vices, Greed, Lust, Vanity and Laziness.
- And they’re judging on everything from violent crimes per capita to excessive drinking to the average time spent watching TV.
- Based on all of that, the most sinful state in 2023 is Nevada, thanks to Vegas, which earns its nickname Sin City.
- It’s not the first time they’ve topped the list, Nevada was also rated most sinful in 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
- Nevada ranks number one for greed, fourth for jealousy and lust, and eighth for excesses and vices.
- It earns a score of 58.36 out of 100 on the vice index.
- On the flip side, Wyoming is the least sinful state, with a vice index score of 26.71.
