Every year for the last 44 years, 2 members of the 324th Infantry Regiment have gotten together to celebrate life and honor their fallen brothers-in-arms.
Both 99-years-old, Myron Roker and Ray Terwillegar didn’t know each other during the war, but have since become good friends. Roker says they didn’t used to talk about the war, but now feel it’s important to talk about what they went through so it’s not lost to history. He also says the conversations have been a kind of therapy for him and his comrades.
The weekend-long reunion wrapped up with a service honoring fellow soldiers who have passed on. "There's so many, so many, of your real good friends that you came with that are not here today,” says Terwillegar. But the two veterans are thankful that they still have each other. God took something that was so horrible and blessed us through it with a lifetime of friendship that's so much deeper than anyone who hasn't been through a battle with could ever understand.
